I Dedicate This Sonnet To Laura & Monte
Ode To Lettuce (A sonnet)
Let us not do everything we ought not-
Inflicting pain in others, and the land,
Carelessly sowing, leaving crop to rot,
Building tall fences, and houses on sand.
Lettuce do that which do buildeth us up,
Enriching our lives and thus our children’s,
Filling with sunlight and good deeds our cups,
Working the land for the good of all men.
Therefore lettuce sow with others in mind,
Tho our seeds may scatter, let us stay firm,
And when we reap, let us triple our finds,
And for faith in the land, lettuce affirm.
If the soil be rocky, let us plow true,
And lettuce grow our good thoughts and deeds through!
